- According to major news sources, “…the [Trump] administration appears to have taken $20 million from the funds Congress appropriated for the Department of Homeland Security [and reappropriated them] to pay for the ads boosting Trump before the midterms.”
- “On October 1, John Hudson of the Washington Post reported that the Trump administration has taken $52 million Congress appropriated for countries impacted by Russia’s war on Ukraine and rerouted it to right-wing governments in Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Peru.”
It is not Trump’s right to appropriate funds. It is not any president’s right to appropriate funds. That power lies with Congress, who – as laid out above – appropriated millions of dollars for specific reasons. However, Trump (who believes he is the dictator) feels that power belongs to him. This clearly demonstrates his disregard for the separation of powers between the Executive and Legislative branches of government.
