This letter says it all:
“Of all the terrible and dangerous things Trump and the Republicans have done, the assault on voting rights is the most dangerous for the future of the country and the thing that will have the longest impact.
The Trump legacy will be clear in the long run: stacking the courts to concentrate unlimited and unchecked power in the Presidency, attacking and bullying the media and universities, threatening law firms and corporations, sending masked armies into the cities and attacking and murdering citizens, spiriting people away and imprisoning them without due process, provoking and bullying other nations, undermining alliances, catering to Putin and other authoritarian dictators, imposing senseless tariffs to increase his own power and leverage over countries and whole industries, lying and deceiving the American people every day about facts and truths, undermining public health, pitting cities against rural America and blue States against red States, promoting a white Christian Nationalist agenda that has set the clock back and reversed decades of progress promoting civil rights and reducing racism , progress that had increased education and made it more accessible to those least able to access or afford it, and progress that gave the 99% of Americans who were not super-rich a chance to lead a decent, healthy, productive and happy life and at least some hope that they could do so.
He will be remembered as a grifter who pocketed billions for himself and his family, who headed a corrupt administration that made a mockery of the very idea of public service and has have been in lock-step with this evil man in a non-stop assault on the mechanisms, values, insitutions and history that have made America great. He is a convicted fraudster, rapist, tax cheat and felon who should have been convicted of abuse of power, conspiracy, obstruction of justice and obstructing and trying to overturn an election.
Why he hates America so much and wants to destroy it is a mystery to me. Why so many elected officials are willing to go along with with his attack on the country they are sworn to serve is at best pathetic and sad.
Yet, the attack on voting is the most egregious and harmful of all his many anti-American actions and policies, because it is the one thing that, if successful, cannot be undone.
I count the days until the 2028 elections, hoping that somehow, Trump will turn out to be a nightmarish episode in American history, but only an episode and not the end of the American democracy.
Let’s do everything we can to protect the future of our country.”
